Yesterday a friend of mine ask if I know how remove his windows 7 WAT so he could explore more with his windows 7 Operating System.  I told him that I have a tool to remove Windows XP Windows Genuine Advantage but I can help him find a tool for it and told him that he’d rather buy a genuine one because we can really never make sure that if we find one it will be permanent but he insisted of using one.  To help everybody who also needs to extend their usage of windows 7 this article is for you.

Way back a year ago this Removing Windows 7 Activator was not available though you can find thousands of article spreading on the net.  Resources that times was so poor and everything needs a thorough searching before coming up to a solution or even leaving the windows 7 Activator problem unsolved.  But now there are a lot of links provided but sad to say that most of the links provided on hotfile, fileserve, etc. have been deleted or the links are directing us to a 404 page.

To help everyone, here is a link where you can download the tool to remove your windows 7 activator.  This worked for my friend using windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.  This should also work on windows 7 32bit.  There are two links, the first link will totally remove the Windows 7 Activator and the second link will give us different choices such as extending usage to number of days or even get a genuine certificate.  You can download both at this links

1. download the files here.

2. extract the files on your computer. You should see 2 folders in it. 1 folder is named gpedit files and the other is GroupPolicy.

3. Copy this and paste on Run %SystemRoot%\system32 or you can navigate to c: >> windows >> system 32 with this path on the address bar C:\WINDOWS\system32.

4. Copy the files inside gpedit files folder and paste in on system32 folder.

5. Copy the GroupPolicy folder and paste it on system32 folder

6. Go to run and type CMD or open the command prompt

7. Enter the following commands on the command prompt one by one:

regsvr32 gpedit.dll
regsvr32 fde.dll
regsvr32 gptext.dll
regsvr32 appmgr.dll
regsvr32 fdeploy.dll

8. Now go to run and type gpedit.msc, you can now set the policy on your windows xp computer.

By default the GroupPolicy folder is hidden, I just changed the folders attributes so that you guys can see it and so that it won’t look “suspicious”.  You can hide it back or you can leave it as is.

I have tested the files in a windows xp professional edition operating system.  I believe this will also work on other versions of windows XP (though I haven’t tested it, try it on your own risk).

To prevent this from happening you need to disable autorun on your computer. And how do you do that? Its really simple and anybody who uses windows XP can do this even my 8 year old cousin can do it. Here are the steps you need to do so that you can disable the autorun in your computer.

Open the gpedit.msc application and this can be done by going to the Start >> Run. Then type gpedit.msc and press enter. gpedit.msc is a built in application of windows xp which can be found in your system32 folder. gpedit.msc is a group policy which controls access to your computer’s applications and other stuff. after opening gpedit.msc you should open the under User Configuration >> Administrative Templates >> System the on the right side you can see Turn Off Autoplay. Open it and the enable the policy and set it to all drives. By then autorun will be disabled every time you connect an external device on your computer. Below is the image on how to disable autorun by using the gpedit.msc application.

Disabling autorun on your computer is one big help especially when you use external devices and connect it from one PC to the other. This will prevent computer virus from running on your computer without any of your permission. Aside from disabling your computers autorun, the most important thing to do is always keep your antivirus up to date. This will surely prevent your computer from any attacks.

If you want users to copy the files without any changes the you can just do it by checking the first box.  Then click OK.  To access the file from other users you can go to START and click RUN.  Type the name of the computer you want to access after a double back slash(\\) and click  OK one example is by typing \\weak where weak is the name of the computer I want to access. Before you can access the computer your firewall must be turned off.

or you can use the ip address \\192.168.250.234 or yo can see it by going to my network places and click view workgroup computers and click the PC you wannt to access.

And from here you can see the shared files from other computers.  And if you want them to change the files on your shared folder just check the 2nd check box.  From here other users within the network can make changes to the files and they can even delete it.  So be careful whatever files you are trying to share.

File types are like embedded signatures, telling the operating system that this type of file can be opened by this  software or program and also to  associate with it properly.  A  file extension is one or several letters at the end of a filename. Usually three or four letters,  Filename extensions usually follow a period (dot) and indicate the type of information stored in the file.  One good example is “Warcraft III.exe” the .exe file extension this means that Warcraft III is an executable program file.  “.exe” file extensions are sometimes dangerous to open especially when you don’t know the file.  If you have files such as “.exe”, better not open it because some of this types are viruses and this can surely ruin your entire operating system especially for Microsoft Windows.

To show hide your file extension for windows is just go and open My Computer then click Tools menu and click Folder Options and click the View tab.  You should have the same as the image below:

If you want to show file extensions then you can always check the box and click apply.  Conversely, you can uncheck it if you dont want to see the file extension.

One disadvantage of this for most users is that when you rename the file and the extension is remoced the file will no longer work.  One example is that when you have a “example.doc” which is a MS Word File  and rename it to “myproject” the file will not work unless you write the file extension.  Renaming it back to “myproject.doc” will rename the file and will work on .doc editing software.

Well for you that bought pirated there are still other ways to remove the Windows Genuine Advantage Notification by means of  a windows genuine validation tool, a free download for windows xp activation software or just simply by tweaking you operating system by following these steps in order to remove this black screen and the notification.

Windows tweak:

The first thing to do is you have to terminate the process form running on your computer secondly you have to change the name of the files that are running the process. Then change your desktop back to what you where using before.

Right click on your task bar, click on task manager, click process tab look for the process with the name “wgatray.exe” right click on it and click end process tree, a warning message will appear click yes, the process will be terminated. Then double click on my computer, double click drive C: double click windows folder, double click system 32 folder, look for two files, “wgatray.exe”. When you locate the file, right click on the file and rename them to whatever you want. Then restart your computer. Your computer should be in good state now.

Recently Microsoft has modified the notification such that if this notification also changes your computer wallpaper and background color to black. After removing the notification simply change you desktop wallpaper again.

Sometimes this modified windows genuine advantage notification also initiates the Wgatray.exe process immediately after you end the process. To solve this problem download process terminators that will kill it process permanently for you to be able to change the name of wgatray.exe in the system 32 folder.

If step one does not solve the problem you can simply download the windows xp activation software and run the software. This will surely help you with the problem. This is the windows genuine validation tool that will remove the Windows Genuine Advantage Notification and will change your pirated windows XP to be Genuine it also allows you to download updates for your windows operating system.

Among the many entries here are a lot of pointless ones, by the way. You can remove the Log Off entry on the Start Menu, for example, which certainly isn’t high on my list of must-haves. But who knows, you may want to do that or any of the many other changes the Group Policy Editor allows. Go in there yourself and muck around; you’ll find plenty to change.

To hide unused applets using the Registry, run the Registry Editor (run > type regedit) and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Control Panel\don't load The key, as its name implies, determines which Control Panel applet icons are not loaded into the Control Panel. You’ll still be able to run those applets from the command line after you hide them  you just won’t be able to see their icons in the Control Panel.

To hide an applet, create a new String value whose name is the filename of the applet that you want to hide. For example, to hide the Mouse Control dialog box, the String value would be main.cpl. Below are the complete list of Control Panel applets and their filenames.
