Microsoft has slowly expanding Office Genuine Advantage (OGA) availability to more countries.  According to Microsoft last August 26, 2009 Office Genuine Advantage (OGA) is now expanded to 13 more countries which includes United States of America (US), United Kingdom (UK), Peru, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Australia, Greece, Ireland, the Netherlands, Finland, Switzerland, India, and Taiwan, making it a total of 41 countries that subject to Office Genuine Advantage (OGA) validation.

KB949810 Office Genuine Advantage Notifications will be published through Windows Update and Microsoft Update, as “High Priority” update for Windows XP systems and “Important” update for Windows Vista and Windows 7 systems. The download of Office Genuine Advantage (OGA) Notifications is voluntary. Users can opt and choose to NOT install it. But once installed, Office Genuine Advantage (OGA) Notifications cannot be installed, and there is no option to temporarily or permanently stop notification messages from displaying.

KB949810 requires end-users to accept an EULA (End User License Agreement) before installation begins, even if the systems have Automatic Updates set to download and install all updates automatically.  To prevent and stop Office Genuine Advantage (OGA) Validation and Notifications components to be installed, just deny the EULA.

According KB949810, once a computer has been determined to be running a copy of Office that has failed the Office Genuine Advantage validation process, a message will be displayed during Office program start up:

“This copy of Microsoft Office is not genuine.

Please excuse this interruption. This copy of Microsoft Office did not pass validation. Click Learn More for details and for help identifying the best way to get genuine Microsoft Office.

And, a toolbar will be added to non-genuine Office XP and Office 2003 programs or a ribbon element is added to non-genuine Office 2007 programs to display “This copy of Office is not genuine. Click here to learn more”.

Office Genuine Advantage Notifications (KB949810) will be published all systems with Microsoft Office XP, Office 2003, Office 2007 or upcoming Office 2010 suites or applications program.

To remove the added menu and notification download the file and follow the instructions provided in the text file with the package.

To prevent this from happening you need to disable autorun on your computer. And how do you do that? Its really simple and anybody who uses windows XP can do this even my 8 year old cousin can do it. Here are the steps you need to do so that you can disable the autorun in your computer.

Open the gpedit.msc application and this can be done by going to the Start >> Run. Then type gpedit.msc and press enter. gpedit.msc is a built in application of windows xp which can be found in your system32 folder. gpedit.msc is a group policy which controls access to your computer’s applications and other stuff. after opening gpedit.msc you should open the under User Configuration >> Administrative Templates >> System the on the right side you can see Turn Off Autoplay. Open it and the enable the policy and set it to all drives. By then autorun will be disabled every time you connect an external device on your computer. Disabling autorun on your computer is one big help especially when you use external devices and connect it from one PC to the other. This will prevent computer virus from running on your computer without any of your permission. Aside from disabling your computers autorun, the most important thing to do is always keep your antivirus up to date. This will surely prevent your computer from any attacks.

If you want users to copy the files without any changes the you can just do it by checking the first box.  Then click OK.  To access the file from other users you can go to START and click RUN.  Type the name of the computer you want to access after a double back slash(\\) and click  OK one example is by typing \\weak where weak is the name of the computer I want to access. Before you can access the computer your firewall must be turned off.

or you can use the ip address \\192.168.250.234 or yo can see it by going to my network places and click view workgroup computers and click the PC you wannt to access.

And from here you can see the shared files from other computers.  And if you want them to change the files on your shared folder just check the 2nd check box.  From here other users within the network can make changes to the files and they can even delete it.  So be careful whatever files you are trying to share.
